Whenever election time rolls around I get one or two direct mail solicitations from the Republicans. Just going to state right up front that I am not now, nor have I ever been, nor will I ever be, a registered Republican. Still, their top-notch marketing machine reaches out to me each election cycle. I normally just recycle this material right away, but not this time. Take a gander at this.
It’s from the RNC, and they’re asking for my opinion. They tell me:
Enclosed is a special questionnaire document – REGISTERED to your name and address – identifying you as THE DESIGNATED REPRESENTATIVE of VOTERS residing in your district.
Fantastic. I’m sure I can speak for everyone. What is it that you want to know?
The feedback you provide on this Survey will directly influence Republican efforts to end Democrat Leader Harry Reid’s ultra-partisan reign of terror in the U.S. Senate and ensure that we effectively cut Barack Obama’s term in half…
Woah. That has a bit of an edge to it, don’t you think? I mean, it sounds like a bias already exists. I did like the part about Harry Reid though. He is badass.
They go on to say a lot of negative things about President Obama (who is actually great) and Obamacare (which is also great), and everyone’s entitled to an opinion but I have to push back on the tone. It’s always “Obama” with these guys, never President Obama. Let’s be respectful, shall we? I always call your guy President Bush, and he wasn’t even elected the first time.
The letter wraps up with the following pitch.
I hope you look at this letter as an opportunity to do something to help end the Obama-era of stagnant economic growth, massive government expansion, rapid accumulation of federal debt and terrible, freedom-stifling liberal policies.
I actually had a completely different take on the letter. To me it seemed like the last incoherent, desperate, dying cry of a once proud Grand Old Party. But that’s just my opinion.
