The Great Backyard Bird Count is a few weeks away, but all indications are that we’ll roll up a big number this year. For the weekend, we noted 22 different bird species from our backyard observation deck. Not all of the birds were in our backyard, but the outsiders were seen flying overhead or in trees visible from the deck, so they got counted. Here’s the list.

Red-tailed Hawk, Western Gull, Rock Pigeon, Mourning Dove, Anna’s Hummingbird, Western Scrub-Jay, Common Raven, Chestnut-backed Chickadee, Oak TItmouse, White-breasted Nuthatch, Bewick’s Wren, Cedar Waxwing, Northern Mockingbird, California Towhee, Fox Sparrow, Dark-eyed Junco, House Finch, Lesser Goldfinch, Northern Flicker, American Crow, Bushtit, and Golden-crowned Sparrow.

If kitty had brought this level of attention, I’m sure we would seen even more birds.
