We are back on Storm Watch here at the ‘Cat.

Water Vapor

What we are looking at here is the water vapor image for the eastern Pacific this morning. The well-advertised and accurately forecasted Atmospheric River is in place, and a series of shortwave troughs are spinning through, wheeling around that big low pressure area in the Gulf of Alaska. Friends of Mellowcat were dragooned into participating in a rainfall estimation contest, which ends at midnight on Saturday. That system you see north west of the Hawaiian Islands in this image might not actually be here by then, but may not be needed for us to meet or exceed our optimistic estimates. The current wave is entraining some of that good subtropical moisture.
