The longtime reader of this blog surely knows that Mellowcat has been, is, and will continue to be, a supporter of President Obama. I just like the guy. But friend to friend, I have to call him out on a recent statement:
Congress should take the money that we’re no longer spending on war, use half of it to pay down our debt, and use the rest to do some nation-building here at home.
What’s half of zero? These wars were never paid for to begin with, so it’s not like there’s actually any money available here for other purposes. That was on the credit card. So it’s kind of like if I decide not to buy a speedboat on the Visa, but instead use the card to take out a cash advance and put that in my savings account, and then use it put a new roof on the house. Probably more worthwhile than the speedboat, but contributing to my personal debts, if you’re still with me on this.
I know, and you know, and he knows that you and I know, that this is crazy talk. Let’s have no more of that, shall we?
