not entirely unexpected

A few weeks ago the MCat mentioned that opening US coastal waters for offshore drilling might result in people seeing the effects of the extraction process, and they might not like what they see, ultimately moving us to conservation and renewable fuels.  So now we have this huge oil pipeline break in the Gulf of Mexico, and we hear:

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Thursday that the cause, still not determined, could impact what areas the government would open for future drilling.
