alum tawed goat

Just stopped by to check out the bookbinding exhibit in the library.  One of the information cards indicated the book cover was “alum-tawed goat”.  Goat I’ve heard of.  But alum-tawed?  That’s a new one.  So I checked it out on Google; the search returned only a few thousand hits, which is pretty low for a Google search.  But I did learn that alum is used to transform goat or calf skin, and the results are different than from tanning.

Alum Tawed Leathers are known for their archival qualities, phenomenal strength and longevity.

Now, how will I bring up this new fact in casual conversation?
