Mellowcat was getting all set to celebrate the Senate’s vote tomorrow on the Health Care Reform bill, but a chilling effect has been introduced by a heretofore unknown (to me) member of Congress, Louise Slaughter of the fightin’ 28th. She says “not so hasty!” – the Senate should go back to the drawing board and start over, because the bill doesn’t include a public option, does include a mandate, and a bunch of other things. Based on what we’ve all seen over the past several months, can we expect the bill to be improved if the Senate spends more time on it? I’d have to say, probably not. She represents a district that includes the old hometown of Tonawanda. So maybe we should consider her opinion, given the success story that Tonawanda has become.
