We saw a show at the new Freight & Salvage last weekend – it’s a real upgrade from the previous location. The seats are very comfortable, and the sound was excellent. I don’t think I’ve ever heard amplified acoustic music that sounded as good as this. We saw Karla Bonoff, with Kenny Edwards opening with a few songs of his own. His guitar sounded fantastic. It was really kind of astonishing how good it sounded. He also played mandolin and electric bass guitar, along with Nina Gerber playing an electric guitar, and Karla Bonoff playing a Yahama acoustic guitar and piano. That didn’t sound quite as good. Not bad, but maybe they’ve tuned the sound system and planned the acoustic properties of this space for quieter instruments. It was nice to see Karla Bonoff in person. With all of the songs she’s had recorded by herself and others in the early years, she probably doesn’t need to endure the hassles of going on the road and performing her songs as a livelihood, but people really appreciated hearing them again.
