seven years later

We bought our first place on October 14th, 2002, just about seven years ago.  A couple of notable events on that day; while we were driving over to make our offer, a missile was launched at Vandenburg and created a stunning display as the sun was setting.  People were coming out of their houses to watch it as we drove through the neighborhood.  And as we celebrated buying our first home, the San Francisco Giants won the National League pennant.  The Internet helps us recall these events, first with an image of the missile exhaust trail:

A Minuteman II was launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base at 7:01 PM on October 14, 2002 in support of the Missile Defense Agency's Ground-Based Midcourse Defense Program. It produced a vivid sunset effect.

And somebody took a video of this:

And here’s the home team, starting to celebrate:

I called Dad to tell him, “Dad, we bought a house!” and he replied, “… you saw the game, didn’t you?”.
