I had the pleasure of assisting Strongly Worded Letter in this past weekend’s beach cleanup at San Gregorio.  Among the bits of plastic, glass, and cigarette filters, there were a number (6) of dead birds and one dead seal on the beach.  I don’t know if the dead bird count is more or less than normal, but today’s Chronicle front page has an article about the impact on bird populations due to declining fish stocks.  The whales are doing alright, because they’ve switched to krill as an alternate, but the birds (and seals) are taking the brunt of the sudden decline in fish stocks, including the unprecedented collapse of the Chinook salmon fishery.
