I’m going to make a few notes to myself about this year’s Mountain Warfare Training Challenge, for next year’s training program.  The conservative approach on the big ascent worked out well – it’s much easier with brisk walking inserted for the steepest sections.  Still feels like cheating though.  I think for next year I’d push through some of the short steep sections at running pace instead.   I improved the time a little from 2008 – 66:30 compared to 68:20.  But since I don’t keep track of time on the run, who knows how much time I traded away with the brisk walking on the ascent and recaptured with more reserves available for the long downhill?  The long runs in training helped, I think.  Next year I should try to get more hill runs on the calendar – and maybe find a trail run in the spring that involves hills.
