This week President Obama announced significant support for high-speed rail projects around the country, and specifically called out California’s HSR plans for a route between the Bay Area and LA as a priority. With the money being lined up, you might think that the project will move right along. But then there’s all these people along the route that have to weigh in with reasons why the train shouldn’t be going by their homes. Around here, Atherton, Menlo Park and Palo Alto seem to be pretty much against the HSR trains coming through. Redwood City has been on the list as a probably local stop before the terminus in San Francisco, and RWC seems to be cool with the fast trains. But our neighbors don’t seem to be rail enthusiasts.
